4 Indians Died Due To Cold On The Border
This incident was on January 19. According to the report of the international media organization The Guardian, on January 19, the driver of the vehicle that cleared the snow from the road informed the police personnel posted on the US border about a suspicious vehicle. When the police caught the car, two Indians were present in it.
When the police searched, there was a small child’s need in the car, but there was no child. American police issued an alert on both sides of the border. After the search, four bodies were found on the border. This family of four was separated from the rest of the people in the middle of the storm while crossing the path on foot. These people were trying to go from Emerson in Canada to North Dakota in America.
According to the report of The Guardian, the police told the court that a person named Steve Shand had been arrested in this case. The car that the police caught was Steve’s. It is alleged that Steve illegally made the entire group across the border.
Foreign Minister Sought Information
After the information about the incident came to light, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar sought information from the Indian ambassadors present in the US and Canada about the matter.
Shocked by the report that 4 Indian nationals, including an infant have lost their lives at the Canada-US border. Have asked our Ambassadors in the US and Canada to urgently respond to the situation.

“The death of 4 Indians, including a newborn, on the Canada-US border is a traumatic incident. I have asked the Indian ambassadors in the US and Canada to take necessary steps regarding the incident”.
Canadian President Justin Trudeau has also reacted in this matter. He told the media,
“This is a heart-wrenching incident. Tragedy in the trap of human smugglers, a family, died a painful death. We are trying our best to stop people from crossing the border illegally.”
Even before this, such incidents have come to the fore on the US-Canada border. According to the news of the Guardian, in the year 2016, two people lost their fingers. They were going from America to Canada. His fingers had to be amputated because of the cold.
A few months after this incident, a woman died of hypothermia on the US border. Hypothermia occurs when the body temperature drops below 95 F, i.e. 35 degrees Celsius in severe cold. Similarly, more people have lost their lives due to the extreme cold on the US-Canada border.
