100 Dead or Missing After Boat Capsizes in Congo River

Boat Capsizes in Congo River: More than 100 people have been killed or missing after a boat capsized in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Provincial officials said that the accident happened in the Congo river. Due to this, more than 100 people aboard the boat were killed or went missing.

Nestor Magbado, spokesman for the governor of the North-Western Province of Mongala, talked to the news agency AFP, said that 51 bodies had been taken out. At the same time, 69 others aboard the boat are still missing. He said that 39 people have also survived this accident.

Boat Capsizes in Congo River

Earlier, on February 15, 60 people were killed when a boat capsized in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This accident also happened in the Congo River itself. There were more people on the ship than capacity, due to which the boat sank.

The country’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Steve Mbikai, told 700 people were on this boat. He had said that this incident happened in the Mai-Ndombe province of the country. The ship had left Kinhasa province for Mabandaka a day earlier. The ship sank when it reached near Longgola Ikoti village in Mai-Nomadbe province.

The boat accident happened in January too.

The minister said that the real reason for the boat’s sinking was more people than the capacity. More weight was also loaded on it, which became the reason for the accident. Mbikai expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. Also demanded a ban on those responsible for this incident.

Even before this, such incidents have been coming to the fore in Congo. In January also there was a boat accident, in which two people died, while 20 people were not traced. Sources had told that this accident happened due to the seating of more passengers than the capacity.

Congo River is the only way to travel long distances.

Dangerous boat accidents are common in the Congo. The roads are in bad condition across the country, due to which people prefer to travel by boat. However, due to this, more people board the ship.

At the same time, more load is also loaded by the sailors. All these reasons become the reason for boat accidents. The Congo River is the only source of long-distance travel for the Congolese. Significantly, the economy of the Congo is terrible, and therefore the government is unable to pay much attention to infrastructure.
