Mexican Footbridge Collapses: The city mayor and other officials had arrived for the inauguration of a bridge. It broke down when they climbed this bridge, and about two dozen people, including the mayor, fell into the drain. A video of this has also surfaced.
The case is of Cuernavaca, Mexico. The mayor of the city was inaugurating a footbridge over the river. Made of wooden boards and metal chains, this bridge was remodelled. The video speculated that this incident happened to separate the boards from the chains.
Mexican Footbridge Collapses During Inaugural Ceremony
City council members and other local officials fell 3 meters (10 feet) down on the stones in the creek. Morelos state governor Cuauhtémoc Blanco said the mayor, his wife, several officials and reporters were among those who fell into the creek. Many people got injured. After which, he was taken to the hospital.
According to the report, Mayor José Luis Urióstegui was also taken to the hospital. He suffered minor injuries and is out of danger. It is believed that this incident happened due to more people climbing the bridge than the capacity.
