The case is from Brooklyn, New York, USA. Church officials said that this act is shamelessly filled with disrespect and hatred regarding the theft. This theft took place in St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church. The church’s pastor, Father Frank Tumino, was the first to notice this. He said that this character was the church’s main attraction apart from worship.
According to a report in the Washington Post, Tumino was on his way to hear people’s confessions when he noticed that the doors of St. Augustine were half-open. When he entered the church, he came to know about the theft. This incident was carried out this Friday morning. New York City police said no one had witnessed the robbery, nor had any footage of the incident surfaced.
Tumino said security cameras were installed inside and outside the church. But he was also removed during the theft. Police said the character was inside a metal case, forcibly cut with a saw and opened. There were also idols on both sides of the pot, vandalized. The pot also had an empty box which was cut open.
The police said on Monday that they have not been able to reach any suspect in this case. The police have appealed to the people that whoever gets any information in this matter should contact the crime unit of the department. Tumino believes that more than one person may have been involved in this theft because the vessel’s weight was too much.
